Shropshire offers no support infrastructure specifically aimed at the LGBT+ community. Whilst there are groups that focus on particular activities ie, walking, running, reading etc.., there is no safe space that is exclusively for LGBT+ people to come together and be entirely themselves in the knowledge that they will not face judgment and will be able to choose the topics of conversation themselves.
The SAND Stars Project aims to link with existing organisations in localities across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin to support them to provide these safe spaces and a semi-structured environment to start new groups, with the ultimate aim that they become self-supporting.
SAND is developing initial pilots in Much Wenlock and Shrewsbury.
